Our mission is to preserve the original beauty of nature, reinforce the shoreline, restore history, and offer people a chance to live closer to nature — in peace and harmony for the soul. The time has come to reinforce the shoreline and restore the history.
The most important question is this
The most urgent truth we must face is this: only we, as a society, can save nature—by creating sustainable, autonomous oases where both people and the planet can thrive. These oases are not just a dream; they are a necessity.
They represent a realistic, scalable solution for restoring ecosystems, ensuring food and water security, and combating climate change. With the right support, this vision can become a model for the future—a future where harmony between humanity and nature is not the exception, but the standard.

Estimated shoreline before erosion
In this photo, you can see how we are losing an entire ecosystem. The shores are eroding, nature is being harmed, and right before our eyes, an entire island is disappearing. Is the management company or organization responsible for this area qualified and competent?
Our story
Once, on the narrow spit of land at Ķīšu Ezers, stood one of the most picturesque spots along the lakeshore. In the early 20th century, there was a wooden gazebo with a flagpole, offering beautiful views over the water. A well-kept alley lined with low shrubs and scattered pines stretched across the spit, where families strolled and music played in the evenings.
The spit was up to 16 meters wide at its broadest point, acting as a natural barrier between the lake and open waters. It was a favorite location for the local Kaiserwald sports club, whose boats and rowers regularly gathered by the pier. Old photographs show sailboats and rowboats peacefully gliding nearby.

>
But as time passed, and jet skis and motorboats became popular, the fragile balance of nature began to shift. Waves from powerful engines started to erode the shoreline, washing away sand and destabilizing tree roots. Year by year, the spit narrowed, and the alley became overgrown and impassable.
By the early 21st century, the gazebo was gone, the trees had thinned, and much of the land had disappeared beneath the water. Today, only a thin sliver of the original spit remains — barely visible on satellite images.
It stands as a quiet reminder of how easily natural beauty can be lost when not protected with care.

Project Overview
The orange line on the map indicates our proposed coastal reinforcement plan. In the northern section, we plan to develop five residential houses.
Centrally located, a public beach area will provide recreational space.
At the southernmost point of the site, a yacht club is proposed to enhance waterfront access and leisure opportunities. This concept serves as the foundation for a preliminary architectural sketch to be developed today. Our proposed method includes a hybrid coastal protection system combining: Geotextile sand containers for shoreline stability Reinforced concrete retaining walls at key stress points Vegetated dune systems to provide natural erosion control and landscape integration
This approach balances structural strength with ecological sustainability, ensuring long-term protection of the coastline.
Why a Holistic Approach is Important for the Ķīšu Ezers Shoreline Reinforcement Project
A holistic approach is key to successful projects, considering how all parts work together. Private partnerships offer flexibility, innovation, and financial stability, essential for the Ķīšu Ezers project. They provide advanced ecological solutions and reliable funding, unlike fluctuating government budgets. Government support ensures the project aligns with public interests and guarantees long-term sustainability. Ultimately, private partnerships foster collaboration, benefiting both the environment and the community.

Why is the shoreline at risk today – due to corruption or administrative challenges?
The shoreline of Ķīšu Ezers needs reinforcement to ensure its sustainability, safety, and appeal. Key reasons include:
-
Erosion Prevention: Reinforcing the shoreline with stone riprap and vegetation helps prevent erosion and land loss caused by waves and seasonal water level changes.
-
Improved Water Quality: A stabilized shoreline reduces sediment runoff, improving water clarity and preserving the lake’s ecological balance.
-
Enhanced Safety: Reinforced beaches provide a safer environment for visitors, especially families and children.
-
Aesthetic and Recreational Value: Decorative grass grids and natural materials create an attractive and organized shoreline for locals and tourists.
-
Protection of Infrastructure: Strengthening the beach protects nearby facilities like the yacht club and café from erosion.
-
Biodiversity Support: Eco-friendly reinforcement methods preserve habitats for local wildlife and plants, supporting the ecosystem.
Our goal
Our primary goal is professional shoreline reinforcement, aimed at preserving the ecosystem and ensuring long-term environmental sustainability and coastal stability. Immediate action is crucial, as proactive measures taken today will significantly influence the condition of the shoreline by 2090. Over time, due to erosion, corrosion, and natural wear, some coastal trees may disappear, leading to depressions, structural instability, and increased vulnerability to environmental hazards.
Current observations already indicate areas susceptible to erosion and degradation, highlighting the need for comprehensive planning, reinforcement, and expansion of the shoreline. These measures are essential not only for preserving natural landscapes but also for protecting infrastructure and ensuring public safety.

Information
To ensure the long-term sustainability and protection of the Ķīšu Ezers shoreline, we are implementing a comprehensive reinforcement and expansion plan. This plan is focused on creating a well-balanced and harmonious space that integrates natural elements with modern infrastructure. The area will be developed to include a yacht club, a modern beach, and five houses designed for athletes' accommodation.
Shoreline Reinforcement and Expansion
The shoreline will be extended by 20 meters in width, and 15 meters towards the water. This expansion is crucial for preventing erosion and ensuring the safety and longevity of the coastal area. The reinforcement process will involve eco-friendly solutions such as:
-
Riprap and Gabions: Large stones and wire baskets filled with rocks will be used to create a barrier against waves, preventing further shoreline erosion.
-
Grass Grids and Vegetation: To enhance the natural look and promote environmental stability, grass grids and local vegetation will be planted. These help to stabilize the soil and absorb water, preventing erosion while providing habitat for local wildlife.
-
Sustainable Materials: The use of natural materials such as native stones and plants ensures minimal environmental disruption, supporting biodiversity and the local ecosystem.
Yacht Club Design Standards
The yacht club will be designed to reflect modern architectural trends while prioritizing functionality and sustainability. The following standards will guide the design:
-
Structural Integrity: The building will be reinforced with robust materials that withstand coastal weather conditions, including wind, saltwater, and seasonal variations in water levels.
-
Environmental Compatibility: The club will be designed to blend seamlessly with the natural surroundings, using eco-friendly materials and sustainable building practices. Solar panels, rainwater collection systems, and energy-efficient lighting will be incorporated.
-
Accessibility and Safety: The yacht club will be accessible to all visitors, with facilities designed to meet safety standards for both members and guests, including easy access to docks and boat storage areas.
Modern Beach Development
The modern beach area will be a space for both relaxation and water sports. The following key elements will be included:
-
Beach Nourishment: Sand will be replenished and managed to ensure the beach remains stable and usable year-round. The addition of sand dunes or natural barriers will help to absorb wave energy and reduce erosion.
-
Recreational Infrastructure: This will include showers, seating areas, shaded spots, and pathways designed for comfort and accessibility.
-
Environmental Protection: The beach area will be carefully maintained to avoid degradation of the shoreline, using natural materials and environmentally conscious practices.
Accommodation for Athletes
The five houses for athletes' accommodation will be designed to provide comfortable, functional, and eco-friendly living spaces. Key features will include:
-
Sustainable Design: The houses will be built using energy-efficient materials and technologies to minimize environmental impact. Features will include insulated walls, energy-efficient windows, and renewable energy sources.
-
Safety and Comfort: The homes will be designed with safety in mind, with robust foundations that withstand the coastal environment and modern amenities to ensure comfort for long-term stays.
-
Community Integration: The design of the houses will complement the overall aesthetic of the site, incorporating local architectural styles and ensuring integration with the surrounding nature.
Overall Concept
This project will create a cohesive and sustainable development along the Ķīšu Ezers shoreline, combining modern recreational infrastructure with environmentally friendly design principles. The architect's focus will be on ensuring that the development enhances the natural beauty of the area while providing functional spaces for both leisure and sports. Every aspect of the design, from the shoreline reinforcement to the yacht club, beach, and accommodation, will work together to create a safe, attractive, and environmentally harmonious space for both locals and visitors.

Investing now in advanced shoreline stabilization techniques such as bioengineering, geotextiles, vegetation planting, and structural reinforcement will effectively mitigate erosion's detrimental effects and enhance coastal resilience. This approach safeguards biodiversity, maintains ecological balance, and ensures the safe and sustainable use of coastal resources.
Additionally, adherence to European Union legislation and standards, including Directive 2007/60/EC on the assessment and management of flood risks and the European Union Strategy on Adaptation to Climate Change (COM(2021) 82 final), provides a structured framework for effective shoreline management. These guidelines integrate best practices emphasizing sustainability, climate resilience, and conservation of natural habitats.
Therefore, immediate shoreline protection aligns with environmental responsibility and regulatory compliance, securing coastal integrity for future generations.
Ķīšu Ezers is one big family — a place where animals live freely, without cages

Private partnership: This is a new yacht club
The construction of the yacht club is one of the key tasks within the unified project for shoreline reinforcement.
In Europe, yacht clubs serve as hubs for both recreational and competitive sailing, offering facilities for boat storage, training, and events. They play a central role in promoting maritime culture, providing a space for enthusiasts to gather, share experiences, and develop skills. Yacht clubs also attract tourism, contributing to local economies and enhancing the appeal of coastal areas.
For Latvia, a yacht club would be especially beneficial as it aligns with the country’s growing interest in maritime activities. With its extensive coastline and proximity to the Baltic Sea, Latvia has great potential to become a key player in the yachting and sailing community. The establishment of a yacht club can help develop local infrastructure, foster tourism, and create economic opportunities through events, services, and the influx of international visitors. Furthermore, a well-developed yacht club can also help raise awareness of sustainable maritime practices and environmental responsibility, which are crucial for the preservation of Latvia’s natural coastal landscapes.

Private Partnership: A New Beach for People
Aesthetic Appeal: A well-maintained beach enhances the appearance of the area, making it more attractive to both locals and tourists. This contributes to the development of tourism and increases the comfort of visitors.
Improved Safety: Modern beaches typically feature designated relaxation areas, safe access to the water, and regular cleaning and maintenance, which reduces the risk of injury and ensures a comfortable experience for all visitors.
Environmental Sustainability: Well-maintained beaches with properly organized infrastructure can use eco-friendly materials such as grass grids and stone installations, which help reinforce the shoreline and protect against erosion. This contributes to preserving the ecosystem of the lake and its surrounding area.
Conservation of Nature and Biodiversity: Well-maintained beaches allow for better control over the impact of human activity on nature, preventing water pollution and environmental degradation, as well as protecting local plant and animal species.

Private Partnership: New Homes for Guests
The project involves the construction of 5 houses for athletes, designed to provide accommodation and specialized facilities for sports teams or individual athletes during training and competitions. These houses are strategically located near the lake to offer a peaceful and inspiring environment that enhances focus, relaxation, and physical recovery. The proximity to the lake provides athletes with easy access to outdoor activities such as swimming, rowing, or simply enjoying nature as part of their wellness and recovery routine. This setup not only promotes a balanced lifestyle but also supports the overall performance of athletes by integrating nature into their training regimen.

A Sustainable Solution for Environmental Protection and Regional Growth
SPIRIT OF LATVIA are ready to invest over 400,000 euros to strengthen the shoreline through a private partnership. This investment will be supported by the Latvian Fund and EU funds. Our goal is to ensure sustainable development, environmental protection, and infrastructure improvement. The private partnership approach enables flexible and innovative solutions. The project will protect the environment and boost regional economic growth. Our project will undergo an audit by PWC (PricewaterhouseCoopers) upon request, ensuring financial transparency and sustainability. This initiative aligns with broader sustainability goals for the community and the environment.

Plan
The task for the architect is to include 5 houses for athletes in the project. These houses should be located at the beginning of the area, with cadastral numbers 01000840175 and 01000840175, which are the land parcel numbers where the houses should be positioned.
